The Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 is Michelin's Max Performance tire developed for the drivers of the world's ultra high performance sports cars. Pilot SX MXX3 tires were designed to provide a performance level similar to racing slicks with rain grooves cut into them by offering progressive handling, responsiveness and traction on dry roads with ample traction on wet roads. The Pilot SX MXX3 is not intended to be driven in snow. Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 molds Michelin's Advanced Technology tread compound into a symmetric straight rib-type tread design featuring wide circumferential grooves and angled shoulder grooves to channel water to increase hydroplaning resistance. The uninterrupted center ribs reduce tire noise on dry roads while they sharpen steering response and provide communicative road feel. The tire's structure includes two belts made of high-tensile, lightweight steel cords which are further reinforced by size-optimized, spirally wrapped nylon cord utilizing Michelin's BAZ (Banded At Zero) Technology to improve steering response and resist distortion while they enhance ride quality and high-speed durability. Rayon cord reinforced sidewalls promote fast steering response and powerful cornering, while Michelin's cable beads help maintain the shape of a running tire for better tire/wheel uniformity.

Here is my experience with these tires. I come off a set of OEM continentals worn at 16K on the rears and then a set of Toyo T1S that. My biggest gripe with the Toyos was the tremendous amount of noise (woop-woop-woop). Outright grip and road comfort was very good - but noise and steering response were under the OEM continentals on the T1S. So for my next tire I stopped over something with a pattern bound for little road noise and something that has tremendous steering response and grip. And I am happy to report that not only do these tires have extraordinary steering response and a silent ride but they look set for at least another 10000 miles on top of the 20000 I have already. These tires are gripping very nicely in the summer when temperatures are hot - winter does not do them justice - too cold for this compound but still pretty darn good grip. The hard sidewall is the best part of these tires - you have control on your car. The car does not remember to turn but turns with you at the same time. On the Toyos turning was delayed more so then the OEM Contis. With the Mxx3s I can actually avoid potholes at 65mph right after they pop up from underneath the bumper of the car in front of me. Bottom line, this is a safe tire which gives you the control of your vehicle with the bonus of lots of miles by comparison to a cheaper tire. There is a lot of hype on the wrong things here through the reviews. Hard sidewalls = a little harsher ride but also equals instant CONTROL on your steering which can help you AVOID HAIR RAISING SITUATIONS. Comfy ride = soft pliable sidewalls = less control and linearity in tire response unless you bump tire pressures up significantly which means you will be bouncing off the road at every bump to get the same (but not as good) turning response as a hard sidewall tire. So if you like being in control and you want a set of summer tires that are quiet and last a good long while - MXX3s are money well spent.
