The Latitude Tour HP is Michelin's Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season light truck tire developed for the drivers of premium crossover and sport utility vehicles. Used as Original Equipment by Acura, BMW, Lexus, Porsche and others, Latitude Tour HP tires are designed to combine comfort, handling and all-season traction, even in light snow. The Latitude Tour HP features an all-season tread compound molded into a symmetric pattern that helps balance dry, wet and wintertime traction. Stable shoulder blocks and a continuous center rib boost responsiveness and highway stability, while wide circumferential grooves help resist hydroplaning and 2-D Active Sipes improve handling in rain and snow. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced with Michelin FAZ Technology (Filament At Zero degrees) that winds polyester and aramid/nylon cords spirally under the tread area to provide a stable feel and crisp steering, while polyester cord reinforced sidewalls enhance ride quality. NOTE: While Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season light truck tires offer all-season versatility including traction in light snow, tire sizes featuring extremely wide tread widths may limit the traction this type of tire can provide in deep snow.

The original Continentals were a mediocre tire and Mercedes obviously took the cheapest way out on 19" original equipment. The original tires wore fast, started hydroplanning badly at about 10K miles, were somewhat noisy. They handled moderately well and the ride was satisfactory given that I have 3 suspension settings on this SUV. I got only 23K miles on originals before the wet traction became too scary to go further. With the help of Tire Rack's superb resources I finally decided to buy the Michelin Latitude Tour HP as it offered the best all around ratings on wet and dry conditions and appeared to be providing good mileage. Low price was not my objective, just best tire and good value. I believe I got it. I did not buy from tire rack because my Mercedes dealer said they'd price match on any Michelin product and they did. Feeling guilty because I use Tire Rack as a resource, I did buy truck tires from them to put on my son's older Tahoe. Back too the Latitudes - they are a fine tire and have proven to be snow capable. Crossing the Dinner Summit I was able to pass the chain control check point just with 4 wheel drive and these great all-season tires. I was surprised because conditions were terrible and would I have been in big trouble with the CHP if I'd screwed up and blocked traffic. No need to worry as the traction was superb and even though we did a little snow plowwing ourselves on the downhills, these tires were a --- send. BTW, you folks who think you know it all, it is OK to go to neutral when you star to slide downhill; it really works as your wheels are no longer being "driven". Also, when starting use a higher gear to avoid wheel spin. With the Mercedes 7 speed auto, starting in 2nd or 3rd gear took all the heavy torque off the tires and these Micjhelins thought they were snow shoes. Bottom line in Winter is having the best all-season or winter tires and a skilled driver. Too many loonies out there not to have the best tires.
